Help at Chesham Cemetery
The Friends meet twice a year to plan maintenance and enhancement projects, but also have regular working parties in the cemetery carrying out maintenance work such as litter picking and refurbishing benches.
A major Friends project is the creation of a wildflower meadow in one of the older sections of the cemetery, which is developing a diverse chalk grassland flora and encouraging wildlife, such as butterflies, into the cemetery.
For 2011, they have started a project to refurbish some of the older graves in the cemetery.
The Friends have also conducted guided tours of the cemetery and put on a historical display in the Chapel as part of Chesham's Heritage Weekends. The Friends have published a booklet to celebrate 150 years of the cemetery, which is available from the Town Hall and Chesham Museum.
The Friends of Chesham Cemetery are very keen to recruit new members. If you would like to join, or find out more about their work, please contact the Town Hall by email to admin@chesham.gov.uk or by phone on 01494 774842 (Monday to Friday 10 am to 4.30 pm).
